The Queen was not in attendance tonight, as Buckingham Palace said there was no official role for a Head of State in the ceremony. Her Majesty is expected to watch it at Balmoral, where she and Prince Philip are spending their summer break. The Palace released a message from the Sovereign
'As the 2012 London Olympic Games come to a close, I offer my congratulations to the athletes of Great Britain and the Commonwealth, whose efforts across the range of Olympic disciplines have truly captured the public's imagination and earned their admiration. I congratulate, too, the organisers of the games, as well as the thousands of volunteers who have epitomized the Olympic spirit through the warm welcome they have shown to the sporting teams and spectators from around the world.
As a nation we now look forward to the Paralympic Games and wish all athletes every success'.

I'd like to thank you all for reading the blog and commenting throughout the Olympics. London 2012 was simply amazing and it was wonderful to see Kate supporting Team GB at so many events. I expect Kate will attend a number of events during the Paralympics (August 29 - September 9) Until then, there are no engagements scheduled for the Duchess, who will most likely spend some time in Anglesey next. In the meantime we'll continue on with 'Kate Loves' and I hope to work on the 'Repli-Kate' section too, along with the latest news and hopefully a surprise appearance or two.

Hi! The Duchess really loves to dress in blue outfits! She is right, because she looks gorgeous wearing blue! Soooooo excited to watch the Spice Girls tonight! I absolutely loved them when I was 10 years old!
ReplyDeleteI would like to congratulate Great Britain for throwing an awesome party to the entire world during the Olympic Games!
she looks lovely
ReplyDeleteThank you Charlotte for this great blog and all the great Oylmpic coverage on the beautiful Duchess. There has been some great comments and others not so nice but that is what is great about this blog, we can express ourselves. Not everyone will agree but that is what is nice about this page.
ReplyDeleteMaybe when you get read to do your "What Kate Loves" you can do one on teh Olympics showing all the great PDA pictures of the Duchess & her Prince. They were so great photos of them. Now we will have to wait to see her again at teh end of the month. But she does need to go home and spend time with her Prince.
Thanks again for this great blog.
He probably hasn't had a home-cooked meal in a week! I wonder if she filled the freezer for him . . . . Or maybe it was pizza and pub grub.
Deleteas always your the fastest :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a little disappointed with Kate, nothing new *hmpf*
Go Harry!
ReplyDeleteWatching it live I think Kate almost forgot to clap when Harry was introduced...but got there just in time!
PPx
She is a natural beauty, she looks very lovely .. I can't believe olympics is over! I am really looking forward to the tour that is coming up, too
ReplyDeleteI really can't wait for the tour. I am suffering from serious new clothes withdrawal
ReplyDeleteI know, me too! I have to say, though, the Duchess's habit of wearing the same clothes (like the rest of us) makes every new attire extra special too (as it happens with the rest of us!!). Plus, I really, really think it's great that she is so budget conscious. It's the right thing to do...on so many counts. As during the Jubilee, the Duchess DID NOT want the attention to be on her during the Olympics. And rightly so. She was there to support those under the limelight-the athletes!!
DeleteBut, yeah! I'm ready for some new looks!! Silvia
Thanks Charlotte for this quick update!I was wondering if Kate would attend,,but she is and she's looking pretty in the recycled dress :))
ReplyDeleteI like this dress... Good choice...
ReplyDeleteMe too. I always felt like we didn't get to see a good enough pic of it during the jubilee so happy to see it out and about again :)
Delete-Sarah
Thanks Charlotte our gold medalist for the superb coverage of the Olympics!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for your next post :))
Thank you :)
DeleteThank you so much for all this coverage! I've really enjoyed checking in to your blog each day (I looked at it more than I actually watched Olympic events...oops!).
ReplyDeleteYou're so welcome, Thank you Jeanine :)
DeleteKate looks lovely, as always. I didn't expect to see a new dress - she's been very careful about not upstaging the games. (To the extent that she can, that is!!) Nice to see Harry representing the Queen!! A wonderful honor for him.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Choosing the Whistles dress, a piece we had already seen, was obviously done with the intention of Kate's style not overshadowing the ceremony. It was wonderful, excellent performances.
DeleteDear Charlotte,
ReplyDeleteI'd like to congratulate and thank you and all British people for these amazing two weeks!
What a FANTASTIC closing ceremony! I don't know about younger people but me&my friends (I'm 49) had a blast! Pink Floyd, The Who, even Freddy Mercury, wow.... THANKS!!!!
And the Duchess looked stunning as usual ;-)
Your fan in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the pictures of "casual" Kate. - wonderful blog, too!
ReplyDeleteGreat website! Does anyone else think that Harry is starting to look more like Prince Charles? He had such a baby face for so long. MV
ReplyDeleteCharlotte- I read a post from Marie Clare that the beautiful duchess will not have any engagements until their trip. Have you heard this? Also I would like to let all you Duchess fans to know about a great book I just read. It is about the first year of the Duchess's royal life. It is a great read if you are a fan of the Duchess. It is called: A Year in the Life of a Duchess, Catherine, HRH The Duchess of Cambridge. YOU can order it from Amazon.com
ReplyDeleteThanks Charlotte for this great blog. I guess we will have Duchess withdrawals until their the trip.
Pauline - I haven't heard about that but I do believe Kate will have several engagements during the paralympics which is only two weeks away.
DeleteThe book sounds amazing by the way!
We can only hope we will see the duchess before their trip. But maybe not as much if she attends the Paralympics. She does have a trip to get ready for. And I can't wait to see what she will be wearing and what if any PDA we will see between the both love bugs. We will might only get those looks they give each other.
DeleteAnd will this trip the time that the Duchess will get to wear a tiara???
Sad that this is the last scheduled engagement for a while BUT Kate's Corkswoon wedges (in black patent leather) and the Minx strappy wedges she wore to the polo game with Lupo are available for half off on Haute Look today!
