Kate attended the 2006 Boodles Boxing Ball wearing a striking blue BCBG dress. It was the first time we had seen Kate at a black tie event and the dress was a perfect choice, both youthful and elegant.

Kate accompanied Prince William to the Boodles Boxing Ball in 2008 wearing a beautiful £1,000 pink Issa gown. In my opinion this is one of Kate's best looks. The colour worked perfectly with her dark hair and her chandelier earrings added a touch of glamour.

Issa designer Daniella Helayel added a very similar dress to her Spring/Summer 2012 collection. The Brazilian designer said she loves to recreate her best pieces.

Which of Kate's pre engagement gowns are your favourite? (I do love the pink Issa myself) See you all tomorrow for Part 2 where we will look back on Kate's gowns since the wedding.

That's a rely good post idea! I absolutely adore all of the dresses.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Jackie!
DeleteGreat idea! :) I personelly just love gray Issa dress. :)
ReplyDeleteExcellent choice. The grey seems to be the most popular dress thus far.
DeleteI liked Kate's gunmetal colored dress. Its an unconventional color and Kate carried it off really well. Charlotte are you also featuring the gowns she wore after her wedding??
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I am indeed. Tomorrow's post will be all about her gowns since the wedding. I just downloaded large photos from each event!
DeleteIt's kinda hard to pick one as a fave....but I think I like the blue one. She looks stunning in them all.
ReplyDeleteThey are all lovely bonnieux and quite youthful which was perfect for Kate.
DeleteGreat post Charlotte. I am not much of a dress person but I do love seeingthe duchess in all the beautiful dresses she wears. Wonder what we will see her in on thier Asian tour. Maybe she will go with an Asian designer, wouldn't that be nice to see.
ReplyDeleteHave you thought about doing a Kate Loves William. YOu had done one before but it got lost when your blog was down. Now that we have so many great PDA shots from the Olympics, now would be a great time. Just a suggestion.
Can't wait until their tour.
Thank you Pauline. I will certainly look into writing a post on PDA's between the couple!
DeleteWow what a lovely idea for a new post! Can't wait for part 2 :) I must say I LOVE the grey Issa dress from 2009! It's lovely! I also love the black dress she wore as a student! I hadn't seen the photo before but I think the dress is simple yet elegant.
ReplyDeleteGrace
Thank you so much Grace :)
DeleteGreat post! My favourite is the dark grey :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous dress.
DeleteI'm not a big fan of Issa except for the blue engagement dress and the grey engagement gown she wore that you posted here. The rest look very plain to me, the fabrics don't look very magnificent at all, and nor does the design. Halter is really not what I'd go for if I were Kate and I think she found that out lately: since she married she has been sporting some fine dresses and I'm glad she left Issa aside!
ReplyDeleteAny ideas on who designed her St Andrews black halter dress?
I hope you can do a post sometime soon of Kate's time in St Andrews with pictures! They are quite hard to find and it's such an interesting time in the Kate+Wills story!
After the 'Kate loves Gowns Part 2' tomorrow I'm planinng a post on St Andrews next :)
DeleteNo idea on the designer of the black gown but it looks very Issa.
The St. Andrews post is a brilliant idea. Not much information is available on their St.Andrews years and It would be nice to recap their university days. Im looking forward to that post :-)
DeleteThank you for the feedback Siddhii, it is really very helpful.
DeleteHi I love love this blog. I could not do without it i must say. Kate is beautiful inside& out. Her style is spot on! She mixes and matches perfectly. I do rather her hair worn up off her face. I look foward to her upcoming tour with Wills. Keep up the great work.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the lovely comments :)
ReplyDeleteThis topic was a wonderful idea. Thank you. :) I don't have a favorite - I just think Kate's class and potential was clear since her days at university.
ReplyDeleteWithout a doubt, the blue. Most beautiful dress on anyone, ever.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing idea, Charlotte! My favourites from this post have to be the grey Issa dress and the black one.
ReplyDeleteI think the Duchess loves Issa because their dresses always bring out her tiny waist, and I think she looks marvelous wearing them!
I am very excited about the post featuring her days in St. Andrews University! I bet there's a lot to discover!
Thank you for such a wonderful post!
A nice week to you all, girls!
;)
The gunmetal one is to die for! It was sexy yet classy--a combination we rarely see done properly on ladies our age. The Duchess has always pulled it off well ( yes, even in the white denim skirt last week...I thought she looked adorable!).
ReplyDeleteGreat post!
Awesome post!!! I LOVE the blue dress, but they are all pretty fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI love them all! Great job, Charlotte! Can't wait for tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteI love them all! Great job, Charlotte! Can't wait for tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this fun post, Charlotte! We need good stuff like this to hold us until the next HRH appearance. I'm having HRH fashion withdrawal symptoms. ;)
ReplyDeletei love the blue dress and agree w/you that it is both young and elegant (not as simple a thing to find and pull off as one might think!!). Love the sleekness and shine of that sash-it really lends some magic to the look.
Have a lovely week!! Silvia
I've noticed that she essentially wears the same thing each time, but only in a different color. There is very little creativity or originality in her 'style'. Before the engagement, every dress she wore was a v-neck/ halter. Now, all her coats and (lace) dresses look the same. And a belt always finishes off every outfit. It's not a bad thing, but it's horribly boring. Even the Queen wears the exact same style suit and hat every single time she's in public.
ReplyDeleteBut I loved how Diana wore pant-suits, neck-ties, and necklaces as headbands to spice things up every now and then!
I think Kate has two choices. She can be more "creative" in the wardrobe department and be criticized for spending money and being a clothes horse -OR- she can be "boring" (I personally do not believe she is) and allow the focus to be on her role and the charities she supports now and in the future. Diana was creative, and what young woman with a fantastic figure and designers lining up to dress her wouldn't be, but she paid the price in many, many ways. I think lessons have been learned from the past and this couple is on the right path.
DeleteKate is already "criticized for spending money and being a clothes horse". There is no 'focus on her role and the charities she supports'. This summer she has attended movie premiers, attended the Olympics, and the tour is next month. I can't recall any 'focus' on her charity work (what charity work?) Her engagements are far and few, which is why Charlotte has to entertain us by revisiting clothes she wore 10 years ago.
DeleteDiana was creative with her style and effective in her charity work. I don't understand why people think you have to be one or the other?
My point about her having two choices was that there are people she will never satisfy, no matter what she does.
DeleteDiana was married to the next in line, Kate is not. William and Kate are not full time royals like Charles and Camilla. Kate and William are following a path based on the Queen's preference, William's military obiligations, and lessons learned from history.
Dear Charlotte!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice surprise this post!
I love all her dresses, but my favourite is the pink one. I decided to make this post, so that you wouldn't feel alone with preferring that.
Waiting for today's post! And also for the St. Andrews one!
Emese
My favorite dress is no doubt the grey one. In anticipation of the dresses that will put today, my favorites are the lace Temperley dress, which she wore at the premiere of "War Horse" and the absolutely gorgeous Jenny Peckam bluegreen dress she wore at the Olympics dinner. One ideia is do a post about the Duchess Wedding looks as a guest. She attended a lot of weddings with William since they are dating.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amount of wonderful ideas for coming posts you have, Charlotte. I must say that I am also addicted to your great page (like so many of your readers), it is really the best of all about Kate. So: your page is my favourite and my favourite Kate-dress is the blue one from 2006. I like Issa very much.
ReplyDeleteMarion from Germany
love all kate dress and gown no matter she were she looks great
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your lovely comments. Your words are greatly appreciated as are your suggestions. After tonights 'Kate Loves Gowns Part 2' I'll work on St Andrews and a post on the weddings Kate has attended over the years (thank you to the commenter for the suggestion) and of course a PDA post for Pauline :)
ReplyDeleteThat should pretty much bring us to the Paralympics which are just nine days away.
:)
DeleteCharlotte I know I have said this countless times before but thank you so much for finding the time to make this blog! You put so much thought and time into it and I'm sure I speak on behalf of all of us on here that we really appreciate this. Your blog is the best Kate blog there is IMO. You allow a debate amongst the readers and listen to our ideas for new posts, something not many others do so thank you (again)! Much looking forward to the upcoming Kate loves posts before the Paralympics including part 2 :)
DeleteGrace
Grace you are so kind, thank you. The blog belongs to the readers as much as it does to me so you're feedback and thoughts are always invaluable :)
DeleteGreat post! Kate seems to choose similar gowns, and all look great on her. She can wear pretty much every color.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. Your blog is an excellent read btw :)
ReplyDeleteLove the grey one! I can't decide whether that or the pink or the blue is my favorite! :)
ReplyDeleteThere was an article in the Daily Mail maybe a few months ago that profiles four women who had spent TONS of money trying to get the very pieces Kate had worn - does anyone remember this? I remember one college student who had wiped out her entire savings + borrowed thousands from her parents to buy that very same grey Issa gown (although I think she had it in black). Yikes! This grad student will have to stick to admiring those beautiful gowns on my screen ;)

She looks BEAUTIFUL in that photo from university!! This might be a strange thing to say since she's obviously considered a major fashion/beauty icon now, but I really think she looked so much better prior to the engagement and the royal makeover. In that old photo her hair is sleek and shiny (but not incredibly long with the sausage curls she's been favoring since the marriage), she looks healthy rather than overly skinny, and most of all, she's wearing so little makeup that her natural beauty really shines through. Even now, I usually think she looks great in the casual pap shots than in the event photos where she has a fresh blow-out and layers of makeup. Of course, she really can't win - if she did go back to a simpler look I'm sure she would get criticism for that too. Still, I was stunned by how gorgeous she looks in that old picture! Great find Charlotte!

My favorite haa to be the grey Issa or the pink Issa. It is so hard to choose! They both give her a youthful fun edge. I feel like the grey Issa gown has a wow factor that the pink does not where as the pink gives her a fun very youthful touch. I think.the grey has a glam factor that.the public pink gown doesn't. However as always she looks exquisite in both gowns. William is the lucky one!!
