The backpack is described as "perfect for 2-5 year olds, soft and cuddly, comes with its own little joey stitched on so he doesn't get lost". It retails for $12.50.

22:45 - TWO HOURS to go!

22: 25 - Prince William was holding Kate's trusty Longchamp 'Le Pliage' bag as they boarded the plane. The water resistant bag has been a favourite of Kate's for years. It's currently on sale in a variety of colours at Nordstrom, reduced from €112 to €89.

21:45 - The Royal Tour officially begins in THREE HOURS!

21:40 - The plane that will take the royals to Wellington.

Chris Uruquhart Twitter Feed

21:10 - In 1983, Prince Charles and Princess Diana toured Australia and brought nine-month-old Prince William with them. We can expect to see similar photos in just a few hours.

The tour was an unprecedented success and Diana stole the hearts of everyone she met in Australia.

20:45 - The royals arrive in Wellington in FOUR HOURS!

20:25 - The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince George have landed in Sydney. They will be met by a New Zealand Air Force jet and taken to Wellington.

20: 25 - The cover of today's New Zealand Herald.

20:20 - It will be a wet welcome for the royals in Wellington. Sky's Paul Harrison shared a live photo and as you can see the conditions are quite dull and dreary.

Paul Harrison Twitter Feed

20:10 - William, Kate and George should be touching down at Sydney within the next thirty minutes.

Rebecca English Twitter Feed

19:45 - FIVE hours until arrival!

19:42 - What are the royals plans for day one of the tour? The Duke and Duchess arrive at Wellington Airport on Monday 7th April. From here they will go straight to Government House, home to the Governor-General Sir Jerry Mateparae and his wife Lady Janine, and a wonderful building dating from 1910, with which many of you will be familiar from previous tours. On the lawn in front of the House, the couple will receive a Ceremonial Welcome to New Zealand, which in Maori is called the Powhiri. The formal ceremony concludes with the Duke inspecting a guard of honour, and the firing of a 21 gun salute.

19:40 - The media have been issued these rather handy itinerary booklets, just in case anyone from the press pack gets lost :)

Paul Harrison Twitter Feed

19:30 - For those active on social media these are the official hashtags to use during the tour.

Clarence House Twitter Feed

19:00 - A handy brief itinerary of the royal tour (with thanks to Kelly Matthew). How many of our readers from down under are hoping to catch a glimpse of the royals?

18:45 - SIX HOURS until arrival!

18:45 - A touching story about a terminally ill mum looking forward to meeting the royals:

'The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and baby George will touch down in New Zealand on Monday to begin their 10-day royal tour.
While here, the Duchess will visit Hamilton's Rainbow Place – the country's only children's hospice. It provides therapeutic support for children dealing with their own illness or the illness or death of a loved one. 3 News went to the hospice this week and met a mum who has made the ultimate sacrifice, and her excited little girl.
Six-year-old Bailey Taylor is counting down the days to meet the Duchess of Cambridge. She wants to introduce her mum who, like Catherine, has just had a little boy."I love Matthius," says Bailey. "He's so cute. I'm just beside him." But mum Jennifer Doolabh is terminally ill with breast cancer that has spread to her brain and spine. She knows there is a chance she won't make it till next Saturday. Every day now is a bonus.
"I'm not worried," says Ms Doolabh. "It's just that's life, and sometimes that's what happens. Whenever it happens it happens."'

18:40 - A live stream of the Cambridge's arrival in Wellington will be available via ONE News (with thanks to What Kate Wore). It looks like the weather will be rather dismal at the time of their arrival with wet and windy conditions predicted.

18:35 - The world's media have gathered to photograph and report on this eagerly anticipated royal tour. We can expect plenty of excellent photos.

Victoria Murphy Twitter Feed

18:20 - Whilst we wait, did you know William and Kate are expected to attend the wedding of good friend Guy Pelly and his American fiancée Lizzy Wilson in Memphis on May 3rd? The celebration will carry on to a three day party. What will Kate wear for the Tennessee nuptials? Hello's story is here! Below we see Guy dancing with Kate at a Wimbledon party in 2006.

And another one :)

18:00 - We've spent quite a bit of time discussing designers from New Zealand and Australia we think Kate might wear. It turns out the Duchess has selected beautiful jewels from New Zealand brand Tory & Ko. The brand is run by Victoria Taylor, sister of fashion designer Rebecca Taylor (whose designs Kate has already worn) and business partner Kristin O Brien. Each piece is hand-crafted. So, what did Kate choose? The 9ct Gold and Silver Bow Earrings in blue topaz and citrine.

Tory & Ko

Kate also ordered the classic Cultured Pearl and Diamond Earrings with a matching necklace. They retail for $4,400 (NZ) together.

Tory & Ko

17.50 - From Dash Royal via Twitter. Will we see photos from the Australian airport?

17:45 - The Royal Tour officially kicks off in Seven Hours!

17.40 - An interesting tour preview video looking at Wellington from Sky News's Paul Harrison - Kate to Fulfil Ambition Down Under.

  3. Oh how lovely that is! Thanks for offering such an amazing coverage of the tour! I'm so excited for it, when they were in Canada and North America I was not that into Kate and William yet so that I didn't follow it very intensely. Thanks to your blog I'm now really into them and looking forward to the tour so much!
It's already pretty great to know they're already on their way to Wellington and I'm looking forward to what's going to happen. So thanks for your coverage again, I'm looking forward to every post! Have fun! :)

  4. Did you see reports that the Cambridges will be in Memphis TN here in the US on May. 3rd for Guy Pelly's wedding? I'm wondering how likely you think that is. If so- I'm headed to Memphis to try and catch a glimpse!

I do not see TRH in Memphis, Tenn. Security issues and too soon after the tour. Fun idea, though. I doubt they would take George there, nor would they leave him. No, I haven't forgotten about "The Holiday." Now Harry, that's another story.

I do not believe the story either. I do not think W&K would leave George nor take him with them. It is just to soon after their long tour.

    Dear Charlotte,

your live blog saves me from a dull evening sitting at my desk and correcting students' tests. After each test I come to check your blog for news, which means a good deal of infotainment, reward and fun. And now let‘s get on with the work.

That thought passed my mind many a time with themes and essays. Who cares about spelling and punctuation these days?
I think my brain retired with the rest of me.

Hopefully there will be enough of interest in the welcome to hold his interest.

      Spot on Rosa! : )
In contrast to Wellington, Auckland weather is just superb. Bright sunny with an expected hight of 23 degrees Celsius. So I decided to walk to my office. Lovely walk, 45 minutes, crossing 2 parks and overlooking Auckland waterfront. While walking, I couldn't stop hitting refresh on my iPhone. I am turning into such a nutcase, really. But it happens to me every time when we approach a major event with the Cambridges. The tour is all over our local papers and everyone is talking about it. And it happens here - in remote, little New Zealand. I will let you all know should I see / hear something worthwhile mentioning.
Will I ever start working today?????
Charlotte, have you seen how many people are following your blog right now? It's going through the roof!!

Oh Rosa, I really don't want you to put your health at risk but can't stepping away from your screen wait until the tour is over?? I mean, technically, if you check the latest only twice every day, it will take you just as long to catch up on all the news and updates. Total time in front of the screen: ridiculously long, no matter how you organise it ; ) But yes, at some point you should get some sleep. In which part of the world are you?

    5. Anna, Woke up way too early. I meant a temporary step away. Is "Anna from AN" the same as Anna from NZ? Just checking. You never know. Maybe Anna is short for annanymous.
If you are from down under, I guess you could say I am from up over. Which would put me somewhere in the Himalayas or Switzerland. Or heaven. I'm getting closer every day. A few more days of this blog and I'll be there.

George has his eye on those buttons.
      Hello bluhare
Say something that will inspire royalfan to come out of hiding.
      Now I'm worried she's ill.

I decided to check in finally. I can't get too excited about people getting on and off a plane, but I'm loving that George's eyes look brown so the conspiracy birthers will get their knickers in a twist!

I don't know where royalfan is; she's gone AWOL!!

    2. Now I know which blog I am on bluhare. Lol. Yes AWOL. Where is she?

Oh my George is one *cute* baby. He looks like Michael Middleton, I think. Definitely more like his mom's side now. But kids sometimes switch - by the time he is 2 or 3 he'll look more like his father.
Red is a wonderful color for Kate, and I like the length of the coat. Wish the hair was tied back.

    4. Hi Florence and bluhare...yes, I have been AWOL. Lol. All good reasons, fortunately, but I am happy to have a bit of time to relax and catch up. I've missed chatting with you guys!! :)

    5. Why would brown eyes put his parentage in question? Brown dyes are dominant over blue unless the brown eyed parent also carries a recessive blue gene.

  68. I guess Kate holds the baby or he might fuss with William. That's what my kid's did. Always wanted mommy. But, ooooh my.....skirts in the wind and her laughing...hair..baby..skirts..what do i hold first? Poor Kate,,,the wind is just not her friend. I hope she is not crusified in the London papers for this, or some photographer got an unflattering shot..just glad they are on the ground safely.

Prince George is cute beyond words. He looks like his Dad AND like his Mum. Like the perfect fusion.
In the past, we haven't seen Kate much interacting with George. She was mainly holding him and looking towards the camera. Except on one of the christening photos. I am so curious to see more of Kate as a mother in action.
Charlotte, thanks for your excellent work. It's the middle of the night in UK!!

I am just so glad they arrived safely. Prince George is simply adorable. Thanks a lot Charlotte for all your wonderful work in bringing us so much information so quickly. I watched them getting off the plane on tv. I am going to be glued to this blog every free moment I get. Too bad I have to go to work. Oh well. Most of the posts here have been great. I love her outfit, love red. Love Prince George outfit too.

  74. Ugh this red outfit is just so matronly! Those huge buttons and that hat are so ageing! Perhaps the worst outfit I have ever seen her wear.

On a side note, Prince George is so cute!!!!

  75. Oh my! George is so adorable! I am disappointed that we're already seeing the skirts blowing up just minutes after the plane lands. And the ID on the shoes is not correct. The tan shoes have a very slight platform in the picture and those Manolos don't. I do think Kate's shoes are suede though.

    1. I think they're suede, too. BIG mistake in this weather - don't they have a weather checker app...? Ha...

I think they may be Jimmy Choo heels.

  76. Actually, her shoes upon arrival in Sydney look like a nude/beige version of the LK Bennett "Florisa" shoe...but I don't see it in that colour, so I'm likely wrong.

  79. OMG - they are coming back to the US???!!!!! How I wish I could be in Memphis on May 3! Love the post Charlotte - thank you so much! I love her red outfit - you were spot on when you mentioned that the look is reminiscent of Jacqueline Kennedy - I thought that the minute I saw it. Prince George is sooooo cute! Can't forget William - he's looking like a very proud Papa. :o)

  80. Hi -- is there any particular reason there are rumors of Kate NOT bringing her Sledge pumps on this tour?
